While we specialize in residential cleaning and sanitation, certain conditions present biological, structural, environmental, or safety hazards that fall outside the scope of standard residential housekeeping.

Some hazardous conditions require remediation by licensed contractors or biohazard professionals before routine cleaning services can begin. Other situations may require specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), advanced disinfecting procedures, additional labor, and increased liability. These environments are billed at a Hazardous Environment Rate of $100.00 per labor hour.

These policies are designed to protect everyone involved while ensuring every home is cleaned safely and responsibly.

Conditions That Must Be Corrected Before Cleaning Services Can Begin

Rodent Infestations (Rats or Mice)

Homes with active or previous rat or mouse infestations must first receive a professional biochemical or biohazard cleaning before Halo Hygienic Housecleaning can provide routine cleaning services.

Rodent urine, droppings, nesting materials, and contaminated insulation can carry harmful bacteria and viruses. Disturbing these materials during normal cleaning can release contaminated particles into the air.

Examples include:

• Rat droppings
• Mouse droppings
• Rodent urine contamination
• Dead rodents
• Rodent nests
• Contaminated insulation
• Heavy contamination inside cabinets, crawl spaces, or wall cavities

A licensed remediation company should perform the initial decontamination before routine housekeeping begins.

Heavy Mold Contamination

Halo Hygienic Housecleaning does not perform mold remediation or remove heavy mold growth.

If extensive mold is discovered during the initial walkthrough or while cleaning, services will be postponed until the mold has been professionally remediated by the homeowner or a licensed mold remediation contractor.

Why Heavy Mold Requires Professional Remediation

Heavy mold removal requires specialized containment procedures, commercial equipment, HEPA filtration systems, respirators, and professional training. Disturbing mold without proper containment can spread millions of microscopic spores throughout the home, increasing exposure and contamination.

Mold may also exist behind drywall, beneath flooring, inside insulation, crawl spaces, attics, and HVAC systems where routine cleaning cannot safely address the problem.

Potential Health Effects of Mold Exposure

Mold exposure may contribute to health problems, particularly for individuals with allergies, asthma, autoimmune disorders, weakened immune systems, chronic respiratory illnesses, young children, and older adults.

Possible symptoms include:

• Sneezing
• Coughing
• Wheezing
• Difficulty breathing
• Asthma flare-ups
• Nasal congestion
• Sinus irritation
• Eye irritation
• Skin irritation or rashes

Minor Surface Mildew: Halo’s Hygienic Housecleaning, LLC. may clean minor surface mildew commonly found in bathrooms when it can be safely addressed during routine cleaning. While every reasonable effort will be made to clean the affected surface, complete removal of mildew, staining, or discoloration cannot be guaranteed. Results may vary depending on the surface material, severity, age of the buildup, moisture conditions, and whether the mildew has penetrated grout, caulking, or other porous materials.

Heavy mold growth, widespread mold, or conditions requiring mold treatment or remediation are outside the scope of residential cleaning services.

Asbestos

Halo Hygienic Housecleaning does not disturb, remove, or clean areas containing suspected or confirmed asbestos.

Examples include:

• Popcorn ceilings
• Pipe insulation
• Vermiculite insulation
• Damaged insulation
• Old flooring adhesives
• Ceiling materials
• Wall materials
• Other asbestos-containing building materials

Only licensed asbestos abatement contractors should perform this work.

Structural Safety Hazards

Cleaning services cannot be performed if the home is structurally unsafe.

Examples include:

• Crumbling foundations
• Unsafe porches
• Unsafe decks
• Rotting flooring
• Weak stairs
• Collapsing ceilings
• Structural wall damage
• Floors with holes
• Severe floor movement
• Unsafe balconies

These conditions create a significant risk of injury and must be repaired before services begin.

Utilities Required

Routine residential cleaning requires a safe working environment.

Cleaning services cannot be provided if the home has:

• No running water
• No electricity
• Unsafe electrical service
• Painted shut windows
• No AC or Heat
• Exposed wiring
• Electrical hazards

Construction and remodeling projects are an exception, provided there is a safe water source and a safe work environment.

Severe Pest Infestations

Cleaning services cannot begin while there are active infestations of dangerous pests.

Examples include:

• Large spider infestations
• Wasps
• Bees
• Hornets
• Fleas
• Bed bugs
• Cockroaches
• Other dangerous insects or pests

Spider infestations present a bite hazard and prevent safe cleaning. Professional pest control should be completed before routine housekeeping services.

Heavy Animal Waste Contamination

Homes with extensive urine or fecal contamination require specialized cleaning proceduresPet Waste & Heavily Contaminated Areas

Some conditions involving significant amounts of pet urine or fecal matter are considered heavy contamination and may require specialized cleaning or professional remediation.

Examples include:

• Carpets saturated with pet urine
• Carpets heavily contaminated with fecal matter
• Strong or persistent ammonia odors from urine
• Years of accumulated pet waste
• Flooring contaminated or saturated with urine or feces
• Pet waste that has penetrated carpet padding, subflooring, grout, or other porous materials

Potential Health Concerns

Heavy concentrations of pet waste can create an unhealthy indoor environment. Urine can release ammonia vapors, particularly when it accumulates over time or in areas with poor ventilation. Breathing elevated levels of ammonia may irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and respiratory system and may cause symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, headaches, nausea, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.

Fecal matter may also contain bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms. When contaminated material dries or is disturbed during cleaning, particles may become airborne or spread to surrounding surfaces, increasing the potential for exposure.

Children, older adults, individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions, and people with weakened immune systems may be more vulnerable to contaminants in heavily affected environments.

For the safety of the client and cleaning professional, heavily contaminated conditions are outside the scope of standard residential cleaning services provided by Halo’s Hygienic Housecleaning, LLC.

Biohazard or Trauma Scenes

Halo Hygienic Housecleaning does not clean:

• Crime scenes
• Blood scenes
• Trauma scenes
• Human blood
• Bodily fluid contamination
• Decomposition scenes
• Needle hazards
• Drug contamination

These environments require licensed biohazard remediation professionals.

Services We Do Not Provide

For health and safety reasons, Halo Hygienic Housecleaning does not clean:

• Bird cages
• Bird droppings
• Amphibian cages
• Reptile enclosures
• Animal litter boxes
• Animal feces cleanup
• Veterinary biohazard waste

These environments may contain bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and airborne contaminants requiring specialized sanitation procedures.

Hazardous Environment Cleaning & Pricing

Some homes may still be serviceable but require advanced safety precautions.

A Hazardous Environment Rate of $100.00 per labor hour may apply when cleaning environments that require additional PPE, specialized disinfectants, and significantly increased labor. All hazardous environments are evaluated during the initial walkthrough.

Hazardous environments require substantially more preparation, equipment, safety procedures, and labor than routine residential cleaning.

These projects may require:

• Full-body disposable protective suits
• Respirators
• N95 or higher respiratory protection
• Protective gloves
• Eye protection
• Shoe covers
• Specialized disinfectants
• Hospital-grade sanitation products
• HEPA filtration equipment
• Additional setup and decontamination time
• Proper disposal of contaminated materials
• Increased liability and insurance exposure

Cleaning in hazardous environments increases exposure to bacteria, viruses, mold spores, fungi, parasites, allergens, toxic substances, and other environmental hazards.
